Nokia launch Lumia 630 or Lumia 635

Nokia has been rumoured to be working on a smartphone codenamed Moneypenny, which is also supposedly among the first Windows Phone devices to run the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 OS, aka Windows Phone Blue.

Now, prolific phone tipster, @evleaks has revealed that the alleged Moneypenny Windows Phone device could be launched as Lumia 630 or Lumia 635. However, the tipster clearly mentions that the naming could totally depend on the device's configuration. @evleaks tweet reads, "Nokia Moneypenny = Lumia 630/635 (depending on configuration)."

It's worth pointing out that the Nokia Lumia 520, Nokia Lumia 620, Nokia Lumia 720, Nokia Lumia 820, Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 1020 belong to the second generation of Nokia's Lumia line-up, while the third generation includes phones such as Nokia Lumia 925, Nokia Lumia 625, and Nokia Lumia 525. Considering the Nokia's device naming nomenclature, we assume that Nokia might place the alleged Moneypenny in its third generation of Lumia line-up and call it the Lumia 635.

Recently, a rumour suggested that the Finnish major has been planning to release a dual-SIM variant of the Moneypenny smartphone.

In addition, @evleaks also reveals that an upcoming Nokia Asha phone, thought to be called Nokia Spinel could be the Asha 230 and writes on Twitter, "Nokia Spinel = Asha 230". However, the phone tipster has provided no details to support the claims.

Notably, both the alleged Nokia Goldfinger and Moneypenny smartphones codenames are linked to the James Bond movies. We already know that out of the two Nokia phones, Goldfinger was the higher-end device. The Nokia Goldfinger smartphone is said to feature Nokia's '3D Touch' technology, which would let users navigate the touchscreen interface without actually touching the display, while other gestures under consideration included flipping and scrolling.

Nokia Vs Android

Nokia is said to have abandoned work on its first Android phone, codenamed Normandy, and reportedly plans to instead focus on the development of wearable devices, including smart glasses.

Unwired View cites a Chinese publication and claims that Nokia was working on a number of budget Android devices that included a unnamed 7-inch tablet, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. Further, the report suggests that the Android development program was handled by Peter Skillman, who has been the head of Nokia's mobile phones user experience division and the HERE design team.

However, according to the report, the Finnish handset maker has now abandoned its Android plans, though it does not mention the exact reasons of the company to do this, it says Microsoft had no involvement in the decision. Of course, ever since Microsoft acquired Nokia, it was always probable that Nokia's chances of unveiling an Android device had ended.

Earlier, a report suggested that Nokia's first Android phone, codenamed Normandy could expected to be launched in early 2014. Interestingly, the report revealed that Nokia, following the lead of Amazon, was working on a fully-tailored or forked version of Android, like the software on the online retail giant's Kindle Fire tablet range.

In addition, the Unwired View reveals that Nokia is now focusing more on the wearable segment, which includes emerging technologies such as augmented reality, flexible displays, low-powered electromagnetic energy generation and wireless power transmission. Notably, the report notes that Nokia's first smart glass wearable device might be ready for launch by 2015. Unfortunately, the report shed no light on the features of the alleged Nokia smart glass.

We've seen reports of Nokia working on a smartwatch with multiple displays. The Finnish major's smartwatch prototype appears more like a bracelet that houses multi-displays. Nokia has also filed apatent for a foldable 'Battery Pack' which the company defines in patent filing as a battery comprising a series of cells which can be folded collectively.

Appeals court kicks back ITC decision in Apple case against Motorola
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has given Apple new life in its patent claims against Google-owned Motorola Mobility.
The court on Wednesday partially vacated a March 2012 U.S. International Trade Commission decision that Motorola did not infringe three touchscreen-related patents held by Apple. The court has ordered the USITC to reexamine its decision in two of the three patents, patent No. 7,663,607 on a multipoint touchscreen, and patent No. 7,812,828 on an ellipse fitting for multitouch surfaces.

The court declined to reverse the USITC’s decision on seven Apple claims related to the ‘607 patent, but remanded the case in one claim.
An Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on the court's decision. A Motorola spokesman said the court's decision "paves the way for the ITC to find that Apple's remaining claims are invalid and that our products don't infringe."

Apple has asked the USITC to ban the import of some Motorola smartphones into the U.S., and the court’s decision resurrects that possibility.

“Today’s remand decision gives Apple another opportunity to win a U.S. import ban against the Google subsidiary’s Android-based devices, which would have the Android ecosystem at large concerned,” patent blogger Florian Mueller wrote.

Motorola’s new Moto X smartphone may not be affected by an import ban because it is assembled in the U.S., Mueller noted.
The USITC mistakenly viewed some patents as prior art for the Apple patents and that the technology described in Apple’s ‘607 was obvious, Judge Kimberly Moore wrote in the court’s decision. The USITC failed to consider more factors beyond obviousness when it ruled that Motorola had not infringed that patent, and it may have applied the obviousness test in hindsight, she wrote.

“To be clear, we conclude that the ITC fact findings regarding the scope and content of the prior art ... are supported by substantial evidence,” Moore wrote. “We remand so the ITC can consider that evidence in conjunction with the evidence of secondary considerations and determine in the first instance whether [the patent] would have been obvious to one of skill in the art at the time of the invention.”

Apply for passport through smartphones

Applicants will soon be able to apply for passports through their smart phones, a senior official said Wednesday.
"Applicants can fill details on passport applications through mPassport Seva App. We are working on this and are hopeful it will be launched in next few months," Joint Secretary (Passport Seva Project) and Chief Passport Officer Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi told reporters.
The 'mPassport Seva' an android App, developed by the Ministry of External Affairs was earlier launched in March.
The App which can be downloaded at www.passportindia.gov.in, as of now is providing smart phone and tablet users with a variety of services including passport application status, tracking, locating the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and general information on various steps involved in obtaining a passport.

Speaking after inaugurating the passport office CCTV control room at Regional Passport Office at Secunderabad, Pardeshi said the Ministry of External Affairs is likely to issue over 85 lakh passports by the end of this year as compared to 74 lakh issued during last year.

"Between January to June 2013, 37 lakh passports were issued and by this year end. We hope to issue over 75 lakh passports through Passport Offices in India while another 11-12 lakh passports through missions/embassys abroad," he said.
The passport seva project has been declared as winner for e-India public choice award 2013 under government to citizen service category, he said.
