Nokia launch Lumia 630 or Lumia 635

Nokia has been rumoured to be working on a smartphone codenamed Moneypenny, which is also supposedly among the first Windows Phone devices to run the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 OS, aka Windows Phone Blue.

Now, prolific phone tipster, @evleaks has revealed that the alleged Moneypenny Windows Phone device could be launched as Lumia 630 or Lumia 635. However, the tipster clearly mentions that the naming could totally depend on the device's configuration. @evleaks tweet reads, "Nokia Moneypenny = Lumia 630/635 (depending on configuration)."

It's worth pointing out that the Nokia Lumia 520, Nokia Lumia 620, Nokia Lumia 720, Nokia Lumia 820, Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 1020 belong to the second generation of Nokia's Lumia line-up, while the third generation includes phones such as Nokia Lumia 925, Nokia Lumia 625, and Nokia Lumia 525. Considering the Nokia's device naming nomenclature, we assume that Nokia might place the alleged Moneypenny in its third generation of Lumia line-up and call it the Lumia 635.

Recently, a rumour suggested that the Finnish major has been planning to release a dual-SIM variant of the Moneypenny smartphone.

In addition, @evleaks also reveals that an upcoming Nokia Asha phone, thought to be called Nokia Spinel could be the Asha 230 and writes on Twitter, "Nokia Spinel = Asha 230". However, the phone tipster has provided no details to support the claims.

Notably, both the alleged Nokia Goldfinger and Moneypenny smartphones codenames are linked to the James Bond movies. We already know that out of the two Nokia phones, Goldfinger was the higher-end device. The Nokia Goldfinger smartphone is said to feature Nokia's '3D Touch' technology, which would let users navigate the touchscreen interface without actually touching the display, while other gestures under consideration included flipping and scrolling.

Nokia Bandit phablet to be reportedly called Nokia Lumia 1520

Notorious phone leaker, @evleaks claims that Nokia's alleged Bandit phablet will be dubbed as the Nokia Lumia 1520. In a tweet he says, "Nokia Bandit = Lumia 1520". Unfortunately, the serial leaker has not revealed any other details about the alleged Nokia phablet.

Nokia's current flagship smartphone is the Lumia 1020 which features a 41-megapixel camera, while the company's flagship smartphone in 2012 was the Nokia Lumia 920 that introduced PureView technology on a Lumia device (at least partially).

Earlier, The Verge claimed that the Finnish handset manufacturer was currently testing a 6-inch device running an updated version of Windows Phone 8 OS. The site further claimed that the company had code-named the device as 'Bandit' and was expected to include a full-HD (1080p) display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor. The report had also noted that the alleged Nokia phablet would ship with a 20-megapixel rear camera and may borrow the rear panel features of the Nokia Lumia 925 to accommodate the camera.

However, the device may not be unveiled before Microsoft rolls out the GDR3 update to existing Windows Phone devices. Microsoft is reportedly testing the GDR3 software update for Windows Phone 8.

Previously, a Chinese technology publication published an image of the alleged front panel of the first Nokia Lumia phablet on its Weibo account.

Nokia might not have confirmed anything about its rumoured Nokia Lumia 1520 big screen smartphone, code-named Bandit, but that doesn't stop rumours surrounding it from surfacing online.

The first image of the alleged phablet from the Finnish handset maker emerged on The Verge forumposted by one of the members. The image reveals the yet to be announced Nokia Lumia 1520 pictured alongside the company's flagship smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 1020.

second most widely used mobile OS in Latin America Is Window phone

Research firm IDC has released its Mobile Phone Tracker report that notes that Windows Phone has been ranked second in Mexico, Colombia and Peru in the second quarter of 2013. The platform has been ranked second in Mexico for the second consecutive quarter.

As per the report, Colombia is one of the countries with the highest user preference ratings for Windows Phone, with 25.6 percent of the market share being dominated by the platform.

In other countries, including Argentina, Chile and Brazil, Microsoft's mobile platform has also grown in popularity, ranking third in the second quarter of 2013, as per the IDC report.

"Reports show an important increase in the positioning of this operating system in Latin America. The market availability of new devices will be a factor in ensuring this trend endures over the next three months," said Oliver Flores, regional manager for Mobile Phones at IDC Latin America.

Liliana Gonzalez, director of the Windows Phone Division for Latin America, stated that "during this year's Mobile World Congress, we set ourselves the goal of being the second most widely used mobile platform in Latin America by the end of 2013, and we are overjoyed to be able to announce that these reports show that we have achieved this five months before the end of the year." She also commented that, "We will continue working alongside Nokia to offer more and more people in Latin America the holistic experience which Windows Phone has for them, in order to offer a more personalised smartphone which is the best for the Windows environment and the best hardware for people and companies."

Previously, Microsoft had announced that Windows Phone had shipped more than the iPhone in seven market of the world in the quarter ending December 2012. The countries included Argentina, India, Poland, Russia, South Africa and Ukraine in addition to a group of smaller nations that include Croatia and rest of central and eastern Europe.

Microsoft's GDR3 update is due for launch later this year and is expected to improve some of the features already present in Windows Phone. The Verge lists some changes that are expected with the roll out of the GDR3 update. In addition to the features listed above, Windows Phone GDR3 update is expected to bring an additional column of Live Tiles on the Start screen, rotation lock, minor UI tweaks and a new Driving Mode option, the report notes.

Lumia Controls 20% of Smartphone Marketshare in Top Asian Countries

In the recent speaking engagement by Nokia, Microsoft, and San Diego-based microprocessor partner Qualcomm, they focused on their work on Nokia’s latest flagship device, the Lumia 1020. According to Jo Harlow, Executive Vice President for Nokia’s Smart Devices Business,

“We think this will ultimately replace your need to carry a digital SLR or certainly a point-and-shoot camera.”

She also reported the recent performance and growth of the Lumia smartphone venture in some countries in the Asia-Pacific region:

“In Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, we recently broke through 20 percent market share with Lumia, so obviously the Windows Phone platform is becoming really significant.”

As for the two main smartphone markets, the US and China, Harlow has this to say,

The online retailer is taking pre-orders for the Nokia Lumia 925 and claims the estimated release of the device to be fourth week of August. The handset is available in two colour variants Black and Grey. The listing was first spotted by Fone Arena.

The Nokia Lumia 925 was introduced back in May at an event in London and was seen as a new interpretation of company's flagship Nokia Lumia 920.

The Nokia Lumia 925 is a premium smartphone and sports a metal frame with a polycarbonate back cover. As far as the specs on the device go, it comes with a 4.5-inch AMOLED ClearBlack display with 768x1280 resolution and Gorilla 2 Glass. Nokia Lumia 925 and Lumia 625 launch in India by August end

The Times of India has reported that the Lumia 625 which sports the biggest display on a Lumia smartphone, might be unveiled later this month. The Lumia 925, Nokia's premium Windows Phone device is also expected to arrive at the same time. The report also adds that the Lumia 1020, Nokia's Windows Phone Pureview device, is expected to reach India in September or October.

All the three smartphones were listed on Nokia India's official website with a 'coming soon' label, some time back.
However, the report does not mention anything about the pricing of the Lumia 625 and the Lumia 925, It also does not mention a specific launch date for the phones.

Nokia announced the launch of the Lumia 625 that sports a 4.7-inch LCD screen, last month.
The other specifications of the Nokia Lumia 625 include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor alongside 512MB RAM and 8GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card. It comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing shooter. The 4.7-inch screen sports a disappointing 480x800 pixel resolution. The device runs Windows Phone 8.

orders at an online retailer for Rs. 33,999. However, the online retailer mentions the estimated release date of the device as the fourth week of August.

Nokia business, today announced that it will make available its indoor Venue Maps to Qualcomm Atheros, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. Leveraging indoor map data from HERE that is tightly coupled to the core indoor positioning engine will help Qualcomm IZat(TM) location technologies deliver more precise positioning (within 3-5 meters) to mobile devices inside buildings. Improving the overall indoor location experience for consumers, this combination is expected to accelerate the development and use of compelling location-based experiences as well as promotions in shopping malls, transportation hubs and entertainment venues around the globe.

Amber Update for Lumia 820 and 920.

From what we heard from the Nokia Lumia 925 Launching Event last week, the Amber Update (GDR2 + Lumia-exclusive updates) for the WP8 Lumia series is set to roll out here in the Philippines this month. Meanwhile, for those who can’t wait for the said update, it was reported that firmware files for Lumia 820 and 920 are now available on Nokia’s servers. Good news to flashers! However, be warned: flash at your own risk!
Flashing of a device refers to overwriting existing firmware present in a device with new data/files. So when doing this, you have to remember that all existing contents, including apps, games, media, and other date will be deleted. It will do you good if you backup your files first. Flashing can also cause problems to your smartphones; the worst is that the phone will be “bricked” or will be permanently unusable. There are tricks to unbrick a device, but that’s a whole different story. With my experience, I successfully flashed my Nokia 5800 XM, and just recently, my Lumia 900 (since the WP7.8 update took so long to arrive, I used an Indian firmware to do the trick!).

So what are we expecting in the Amber Update?

First we have the GDR2 update, which is Microsoft’s update for all Windows Phone – powered smartphones. It includes the addition of FM radio, improved .wav support for voice mail, fix for “other storage” issue, Data Sense app (for selected markets), the ability to use a Lens app as the default camera, Data Sense app for monitoring data usage, bug fixes for Xbox Music, HTML5 updates for Internet Explorer Mobile, improved Skype and Lync stability, and CalDAV/CardDAV support.

Second, the Lumia-specific updates, including the Smart Camera App, Nokia Glance, flip-to-silence, double-tap activation of lockscreen, Lumia Color Profile, and the Bluetooth 4.0.

Nokia parodies Apple's iPhone ad, claims the Lumia 925 takes better photos

Nokia has released an ad for its Lumia 925 smartphone that parodies Apple's "Photos Every Day"commercial for the iPhone and compares the Lumia 925's camera with that of the iPhone by placing photos side by side in the same frame.
The commercial starts with a voice over repeating the same lines that are featured in the iPhone ad, "Every day more photos are taken on the iPhone than any other phone." However, as we go forward, the voice over talks about how "Nokia prefers to build for quality and not just quantity." 

The ad then goes on to display side by side comparison shots of pictures taken in different modes on the Lumia 925 and the iPhone 5 including various 'no flash' and 'with flash' photos and Best shot and Motion blur photos. It's not surprising that the photos taken with the Lumia 925 look better than the ones taken with the iPhone 5, in the ad.

After a few more seconds into the ad, it even displays the same scenes that appear in the iPhone ad and the voice over gives the message that, "Every day better photos are taken with Nokia Lumias than with any other mobile."

While Nokia clearly intends to show off the imaging prowess of its Lumia devices, as imaging is the major differentiator in its flagship phones, the parody is in bad taste, and clearly reflects Nokia's frustration at not being able to sell as many Lumia devices as it intends to. The iPhone 5 dwarfs the Lumia phones by a huge margin in terms of sales.

The iPhone has an edge with Apple's app and content ecosystem, and is an all-rounder as its camera is still considered one of the best among all smartphone shooters. It's also the most popular device when it comes to users sharing images on the Internet as more online photos are shot through the iPhone than with any other phone. Nokia could announce Windows tablet

It looks like Nokia is gearing up to host an event in New York (US) in September.
Windows Phone focused website, WP Central, reports that it has learnt that the Finnish handset giant is hosting an event on September 26-27, in the Big Apple, though it's not clear if it's a public press event or an internal meet. The site has also posted a screenshot of what appears to be an online registration screen for the event.
While the company had earlier launched some of its flagship phones, including the recently released Nokia 1020, it's also possible that Nokia could unveil a Windows powered tablet, which it has been rumoured to be working on.
The site also claims it had received a description for the Nokia tablet that suggests a Nokia Lumia phones like design with "bright colours and rounded corners". The rumoured tablet is expected to feature an 11-inch display.

On Wednesday, Nokia's new Windows tablet was spotted in benchmark results. It is reported that a device dubbed as RX-114 popped up on graphics processor benchmarking website GFXBench.

The benchmark results suggested that the alleged Nokia RX-114 tablet would be powered by a quad-core processor with Adreno 330 GPU graphics processor. The device is expected to run Windows RT.
However, not much has been revealed in terms of hardware specifications including RAM, internal storage, camera and battery at this point in time.

Earlier this month It is also reported about Nokia's Windows RT tablet, which was apparently cancelled. Interestingly, pictures of the alleged tablet also appeared on the Internet.
A leaked purported picture of what appeared to be a 10-inch tablet running Windows RT was also revealed.
