Nokia Asha 502 and Asha 503 appear online

Nokia seems to be in no mood to rest after the laurels earned by its Asha 501 budget feature phone, as the company is reportedly working on two new Asha devices, if a rumour is to be believed.
In line with the design language of the recently launched Nokia Asha 501, the company reportedly has the Asha 502 and Asha 503 phones in the pipeline. This Is Nokia, a Nokia fan website cites sources to reveal the specifications of the Nokia Asha 502, codenamed Pegasus and the Nokia Asha 503, codenamed Lanai. The site claims that both of the alleged Asha phones could be launched in Q3 or Q4 of 2013.

The site notes that the Nokia Asha 502 will feature a polycarbonate design with a 3.2 to 3.5-inch scratch resistant display which is said to be better than that of the Asha 501, though the source is not sure about the screen resolution. It is likely to be slimmer and lighter. The RAM could be in the range of 128 to 512 MB while the processor is expected to be clocked at 1-1.2GHz. The Asha 502 is said to support 3G connectivity, the feature that was widely missed on the Asha 501. It could sport a 5-megapixel rear camera with the new Nokia Camera app for Asha devices. The site also claims that the device could support dual-SIM.

Meanwhile, the alleged Nokia Asha 503 is said to feature a polycarbonate and glass design. The display is likely to be around 3.2 to 3.4-inches. It could be powered by a 1-1.5GHz processor with a GPU and RAM could be in the range of 128 to 512MB. The Asha 503 is also likely to be a dual SIM phone with 3G connectivity.

The site also notes that both the yet to be announced Asha devices feature Nokia SLAM Bluetooth transfer for faster sharing of files, pictures and even videos. However, there is no word from Nokia about the possible availability and pricing of the Asha phones, yet.

Nokia Bandit phablet to be reportedly called Nokia Lumia 1520

Notorious phone leaker, @evleaks claims that Nokia's alleged Bandit phablet will be dubbed as the Nokia Lumia 1520. In a tweet he says, "Nokia Bandit = Lumia 1520". Unfortunately, the serial leaker has not revealed any other details about the alleged Nokia phablet.

Nokia's current flagship smartphone is the Lumia 1020 which features a 41-megapixel camera, while the company's flagship smartphone in 2012 was the Nokia Lumia 920 that introduced PureView technology on a Lumia device (at least partially).

Earlier, The Verge claimed that the Finnish handset manufacturer was currently testing a 6-inch device running an updated version of Windows Phone 8 OS. The site further claimed that the company had code-named the device as 'Bandit' and was expected to include a full-HD (1080p) display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor. The report had also noted that the alleged Nokia phablet would ship with a 20-megapixel rear camera and may borrow the rear panel features of the Nokia Lumia 925 to accommodate the camera.

However, the device may not be unveiled before Microsoft rolls out the GDR3 update to existing Windows Phone devices. Microsoft is reportedly testing the GDR3 software update for Windows Phone 8.

Previously, a Chinese technology publication published an image of the alleged front panel of the first Nokia Lumia phablet on its Weibo account.

Nokia recently launched the Lumia 625 that features a 4.7-inch LCD screen, the biggest seen on a Nokia phone yet.

Nokia might not have confirmed anything about its rumoured Nokia Lumia 1520 big screen smartphone, code-named Bandit, but that doesn't stop rumours surrounding it from surfacing online.

The first image of the alleged phablet from the Finnish handset maker emerged on The Verge forumposted by one of the members. The image reveals the yet to be announced Nokia Lumia 1520 pictured alongside the company's flagship smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 1020.

The leaked image does not reveal a lot of details related to the alleged Nokia Lumia 1520 phone except indicating its expected size. The image shows the two devices, the Lumia 1020 and the alleged Lumia 1520 kept side-by-side with the display of the both the devices switched on.

In the image, the alleged device seems much larger compared against the Nokia Lumia 1020 that features a 4.5-inch display. The Nokia Lumia 1520 will reportedly feature the biggest display on a Lumia device launched till now.

However, The Verge notes that it was unable to fully confirm if the image was accurate. Earlier, @evleaks claimed that Nokia's alleged Bandit phablet will be dubbed as the Nokia Lumia 1520.

Previously, it was reported that Nokia was currently testing a 6-inch device running an updated version of the Windows Phone 8 OS. The device was said to be code-named 'Bandit' and expected to include a full-HD (1080p) display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor.

It also suggested that the alleged Nokia phablet would ship with a 20-megapixel rear camera and may borrow the rear panel features of the Nokia Lumia 925 to accommodate the camera. However, the device may not be unveiled before Microsoft rolls out the GDR3 update to existing Windows Phone devices. Microsoft is reportedly testing the GDR3 software update for Windows Phone 8.

Highest IPv6 traffic coming from window phone OS 8

Windows Phone Overtakes Android and iOS on IPv6 Usage. The world is changing, no doubt about that. Especially when it comes to mobile technology; the need to serve consumers with the fastest mobile internet experience has led many companies to upgrade their software system. One of these changes is the growing use of IPv6. Reports showed that the Windows Phone platform leads as the top operating system to use the IPv6. But what is IPv6, anyway?IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is a communications protocol; put simply, it is a series of codes used for exchanging information between devices. Not only computers, but even smartphones uses this system. The IPv6 is the latest revision of the IPv4; it is intended to replace the IPv4. Why replace it? With continuous growth of mobile devices that has Internet accessibility, more IP addresses are needed to manage the communication between these devices – this is where the IPv6 comes in, providing more than what the IPv4 can handle.

As the world today relies more on smartphones than computers in accessing the internet, it is important for the mobile devices to upgrade to a more advance IP system to avoidconnection problems. In the recent data gathered from GCN.com, we can see that the Windows Phone 8 OS, majority of which are Lumia handsets, are making the big shift to usage of IPv6 more than other smartphone platforms, if the information are close enough to the real
situation. Considering the number of WP users compared to other devices, the data shown below implies the dedication of Microsoft to provide bestInternet experience to their platform users.
The smartphone wars continue to wage on as we speak. But with all the competition between brands and operating systems, let us remind the people behind the advancingmobile technology to always prioritize the consumers’ needs when developing new devices – after all, without the consumers, the mobile phone market will be forever stagnant.

second most widely used mobile OS in Latin America Is Window phone

Research firm IDC has released its Mobile Phone Tracker report that notes that Windows Phone has been ranked second in Mexico, Colombia and Peru in the second quarter of 2013. The platform has been ranked second in Mexico for the second consecutive quarter.

As per the report, Colombia is one of the countries with the highest user preference ratings for Windows Phone, with 25.6 percent of the market share being dominated by the platform.

In other countries, including Argentina, Chile and Brazil, Microsoft's mobile platform has also grown in popularity, ranking third in the second quarter of 2013, as per the IDC report.

"Reports show an important increase in the positioning of this operating system in Latin America. The market availability of new devices will be a factor in ensuring this trend endures over the next three months," said Oliver Flores, regional manager for Mobile Phones at IDC Latin America.

Liliana Gonzalez, director of the Windows Phone Division for Latin America, stated that "during this year's Mobile World Congress, we set ourselves the goal of being the second most widely used mobile platform in Latin America by the end of 2013, and we are overjoyed to be able to announce that these reports show that we have achieved this five months before the end of the year." She also commented that, "We will continue working alongside Nokia to offer more and more people in Latin America the holistic experience which Windows Phone has for them, in order to offer a more personalised smartphone which is the best for the Windows environment and the best hardware for people and companies."

Previously, Microsoft had announced that Windows Phone had shipped more than the iPhone in seven market of the world in the quarter ending December 2012. The countries included Argentina, India, Poland, Russia, South Africa and Ukraine in addition to a group of smaller nations that include Croatia and rest of central and eastern Europe.

Nokia says India 'least favourable market'

Nokia, which is fighting a 20-billion rupee ($311 million) tax demand from Indian authorities, urged the government to "act quickly to correct the wrong perception of India as a place for business", The Indian Express newspaper reported.

"The political risk of operating in India" has become "suddenly substantially higher and may inevitably influence future decisions to develop one's operations in India", Nokia said in a letter quoted by the daily.

The reported warning comes at a bad time for India when foreign direct investment has slowed to a trickle amid mounting domestic economic woes including a plunging rupee, a huge current account deficit, slowing growth and perceived government policy paralysis.

The Finnish group did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the message which The Indian Express said was dated June 19 and was received by the finance ministry last month.

Nokia said its tax problems made it "more cost-efficient for Nokia to transfer the manufacture of mobile phones to China and to import them to the Indian market rather than manufacture them in Chennai".

Nokia, which has one of its biggest plants world-wide in the southern city of Chennai, is among a string of multinationals in tax disputes in India including Cadbury Royal Dutch Shell and Vodafone.

India has stepped up its pursuit of alleged tax delinquents to reduce a hefty budget deficit.

Nokia insists software downloaded onto its mobiles in India should to be taxed in Finland under a bilateral treaty between the countries, but India's tax authorities view it differently.

"Nokia does not think India can override its international obligations," Nokia was quoted as saying.

Tax claims against Nokia and other multinationals have "too great an impact on the predictability and certainty of Indian business environment to be ignored", Nokia added.

India one of the world's fastest-growing mobile phone markets is the second largest market for Nokia which began operations in the country in 1995 and employs 8,000 workers directly in Chennai.

Nokia which had been the country's leading handset maker for 14 years recently ceded its crown to South Korea's Samsung.

Nokia 'Bandit' Windows Phone with 6-inch full-HD display, 20-megapixel camera in the works

The Verge has claimed that the Finnish handset manufacturer is currently testing a 6-inch device running an updated version of Windows Phone. The site further claims that the company has code-named the device as 'Bandit' and it is expected to include a full-HD (1080p) display and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor.

However, the device may not be unveiled before Microsoft rolls out the GDR3 update to Windows Phone. Microsoft is expected to release the GDR3 update for Windows Phone 8 soon which will enable support for quad-core processors and full-HD displays on the Windows Phone platform.

The report also notes that the Nokia Bandit phablet will ship with a 20-megapixel rear camera and also suggests that the device may borrow the rear panel features of the Nokia Lumia 925 to accommodate the camera. It also asserts that the Lumia phablet will be sleek and light in weight and would come with a polycarbonate body.

Microsoft's GDR3 update is due for launch later this year and is expected to improve some of the features already present in Windows Phone. The Verge lists some changes that are expected with the roll out of the GDR3 update. In addition to the features listed above, Windows Phone GDR3 update is expected to bring an additional column of Live Tiles on the Start screen, rotation lock, minor UI tweaks and a new Driving Mode option, the report notes.

Previously, purported picture of Nokia Lumia phablet's front panel was leaked online. However, not much was known about the device in terms of specifications. With the first set of specifications leaking out, we can expect to hear more on the device soon

Official YouTube App is Now Available for Windows Phones

Few months ago, Microsoft has given us a proper YouTube app for Windows Phone 8 that has almost everything you need. Not that you can watch videos but you can also manage your account, access your subscriptions, like, comment on videos and most of all you can download it straight to your handset.
Unfortunately, this has raised Google’s eyebrows and requested to pull out the app from the Windows Store. They also complained that the YouTube app by Microsoft blocks any ads on videos. The app was pulled out from the store but Microsoft and YouTube team promised to work on a more improved app that both parties will agree.

You can pin videos, playlists, channels and even search queries to the Start screen as Live Tiles. Live Tiles flip to show YouTube’s most popular videos or your subscriptions’ latest uploads. YouTube for Windows Phone is also integrated with Kid’s Corner, so you can help ensure that your kids are watching age-appropriate videos.

Key Features:

• Pin videos, playlists, channels and search queries to the Start screen as Live Tiles
• Manage your YouTube profile with your unique My YouTube page
• Manage your playlists, uploads and video lists
• Find channels, videos and playlists with the quick access search bar with new search suggestions
• Share videos to social networks, e-mail and text messages
• Help your kids view age appropriate videos in Kid’s Corner and keep their own profile

Lumia Controls 20% of Smartphone Marketshare in Top Asian Countries

In the recent speaking engagement by Nokia, Microsoft, and San Diego-based microprocessor partner Qualcomm, they focused on their work on Nokia’s latest flagship device, the Lumia 1020. According to Jo Harlow, Executive Vice President for Nokia’s Smart Devices Business,

“We think this will ultimately replace your need to carry a digital SLR or certainly a point-and-shoot camera.”

She also reported the recent performance and growth of the Lumia smartphone venture in some countries in the Asia-Pacific region:

“In Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, we recently broke through 20 percent market share with Lumia, so obviously the Windows Phone platform is becoming really significant.”

As for the two main smartphone markets, the US and China, Harlow has this to say,

“They are highly competitive. But we are gaining traction in both those markets.”

Making a breakthrough and improving sales in the Asia-Pacific region is a significant success. The developing countries of Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam are key markets for Nokia and seeing the Lumia gaining popularity is a sign of Nokia’s improved marketing strategies, especially in producing low-cost, but high-quality merchandise. The US and China market, though a bit challenging because of the domination of iPhone and Samsung devices, can test the potentials of the Lumia WP8. Will its unique features – camera, phone design, OS – enough to turn the tide? We, Nokia Revolution, have faith in the capabilities of the device, but how about the rest of the world? We’ll find out in the upcoming data reports.

kicks back ITC decision in Apple case

Appeals court kicks back ITC decision in Apple case against Motorola
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has given Apple new life in its patent claims against Google-owned Motorola Mobility.
The court on Wednesday partially vacated a March 2012 U.S. International Trade Commission decision that Motorola did not infringe three touchscreen-related patents held by Apple. The court has ordered the USITC to reexamine its decision in two of the three patents, patent No. 7,663,607 on a multipoint touchscreen, and patent No. 7,812,828 on an ellipse fitting for multitouch surfaces.

The court declined to reverse the USITC’s decision on seven Apple claims related to the ‘607 patent, but remanded the case in one claim.
An Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on the court's decision. A Motorola spokesman said the court's decision "paves the way for the ITC to find that Apple's remaining claims are invalid and that our products don't infringe."

Apple has asked the USITC to ban the import of some Motorola smartphones into the U.S., and the court’s decision resurrects that possibility.

“Today’s remand decision gives Apple another opportunity to win a U.S. import ban against the Google subsidiary’s Android-based devices, which would have the Android ecosystem at large concerned,” patent blogger Florian Mueller wrote.

Motorola’s new Moto X smartphone may not be affected by an import ban because it is assembled in the U.S., Mueller noted.
The USITC mistakenly viewed some patents as prior art for the Apple patents and that the technology described in Apple’s ‘607 was obvious, Judge Kimberly Moore wrote in the court’s decision. The USITC failed to consider more factors beyond obviousness when it ruled that Motorola had not infringed that patent, and it may have applied the obviousness test in hindsight, she wrote.

“To be clear, we conclude that the ITC fact findings regarding the scope and content of the prior art ... are supported by substantial evidence,” Moore wrote. “We remand so the ITC can consider that evidence in conjunction with the evidence of secondary considerations and determine in the first instance whether [the patent] would have been obvious to one of skill in the art at the time of the invention.”

Here delivers precise indoor location content to Qualcomm

Nokia business, today announced that it will make available its indoor Venue Maps to Qualcomm Atheros, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. Leveraging indoor map data from HERE that is tightly coupled to the core indoor positioning engine will help Qualcomm IZat(TM) location technologies deliver more precise positioning (within 3-5 meters) to mobile devices inside buildings. Improving the overall indoor location experience for consumers, this combination is expected to accelerate the development and use of compelling location-based experiences as well as promotions in shopping malls, transportation hubs and entertainment venues around the globe.

"In our quest to deliver location awareness everywhere, Qualcomm Atheros is propagating indoor location capabilities to ensure the best possible experiences in a wide variety of places," said Cormac Conroy, vice president of the mobile, computing and location business unit at Qualcomm Atheros. "Our collaboration with HERE complements the capabilities of our IZat location platform to deliver the exceptional accuracy that is required for businesses and app developers looking for ways to reach mobile consumers and create additional revenue opportunities from location-based services."

To map buildings, HERE mapmakers visit venues from airports to zoos to sports complexes, museums and other facilities around the world to ensure map data is precise and no detail is forgotten. They collect building floor plans and then validate against the real world which includes double-checking the names of points of interest and ensuring that rich features such as ATM machines, restrooms and escalators are included.

"Indoor spaces are among the new frontiers in mapping and HERE is uniquely positioned to bring its global leadership in outdoor mapping to inside venues," said Cliff Fox, senior vice president of Location Content at HERE. "Not only have we been the first to map some of the most recognized buildings in the world, but we also offer the world's broadest coverage of indoor spaces with currently more than 9,000 venues consisting of 50,000 unique buildings mapped in 69 countries. With our continuously expanding reach in coverage and focus on efforts to improve accuracy, we can support Qualcomm Atheros in its quest to provide access to accurate location information and services to consumers as they move about venues."

Venue Maps complement Qualcomm Atheros' end-to-end IZat indoor positioning capabilities to deliver always-on location awareness to mobile devices in more places. IZat is comprised of Qualcomm Atheros' broad technology portfolio, including cellular, global navigation satellite system (GNSS), Wi-Fi, sensor and cloud-based assistance solutions, as well as its widely deployed location core, already found in more than one billion devices on mobile networks worldwide.

Flashing of a device refers to overwriting existing firmware present in a device with new data/files. So when doing this, you have to remember that all existing contents, including apps, games, media, and other date will be deleted. It will do you good if you backup your files first. Flashing can also cause problems to your smartphones; the worst is that the phone will be “bricked” or will be permanently unusable. There are tricks to unbrick a device, but that’s a whole different story. With my experience, I successfully flashed my Nokia 5800 XM, and just recently, my Lumia 900 (since the WP7.8 update took so long to arrive, I used an Indian firmware to do the trick!).

So what are we expecting in the Amber Update?
First we have the GDR2 update, which is Microsoft’s update for all Windows Phone – powered smartphones. It includes the addition of FM radio, improved .wav support for voice mail, fix for “other storage” issue, Data Sense app (for selected markets), the ability to use a Lens app as the default camera, Data Sense app for monitoring data usage, bug fixes for Xbox Music, HTML5 updates for Internet Explorer Mobile, improved Skype and Lync stability, and CalDAV/CardDAV support.

Second, the Lumia-specific updates, including the Smart Camera App, Nokia Glance, flip-to-silence, double-tap activation of lockscreen, Lumia Color Profile, and the Bluetooth 4.0.

Again, we warn you: flash at your own risk. But if you are one of those techno – daredevils who just can’t wait for the official phone update and is fond of fiddling your phone, head to Nokia Views now for instructions on how to flash the Amber Update firmware into your Lumia 820 or 920.

NSN becomes Nokia Solutions and Networks

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia said Wednesday it had finalised the purchase of German engineering giant Siemens' 50 percent stake in Nokia Siemens Networks, and changed the company's name.

The fully-owned Nokia subsidiary will now be known as Nokia Solutions and Networks, retaining the same acronym NSN.

Announcing the 1.7-billion-euro ($2.2-billion) acquisition in July, Nokia said it hoped to create value for shareholders and said it planned to strengthen NSN to become a more independent unit.

NSN, which is specialised in high-speed mobile broadband, was set up as a joint venture in 2007, a partnership that expired in April. The unit has posted stronger earnings than Nokia's mobile phone business, which has struggled to compete against rivals Apple and Samsung.

NSN posted a net profit of 8.0 million euros in the second quarter, compared to Nokia's net loss of 227 million euros in the same period.

Financial news agency Bloomberg meanwhile reported on Wednesday that NSN is mulling plans to cut 8,500 jobs, representing a sixth of its workforce. Nokia was unavailable for comment.

Nokia parodies Apple's iPhone ad, claims the Lumia 925 takes better photos

Nokia has released an ad for its Lumia 925 smartphone that parodies Apple's "Photos Every Day"commercial for the iPhone and compares the Lumia 925's camera with that of the iPhone by placing photos side by side in the same frame.
The commercial starts with a voice over repeating the same lines that are featured in the iPhone ad, "Every day more photos are taken on the iPhone than any other phone." However, as we go forward, the voice over talks about how "Nokia prefers to build for quality and not just quantity."

The ad then goes on to display side by side comparison shots of pictures taken in different modes on the Lumia 925 and the iPhone 5 including various 'no flash' and 'with flash' photos and Best shot and Motion blur photos. It's not surprising that the photos taken with the Lumia 925 look better than the ones taken with the iPhone 5, in the ad.

After a few more seconds into the ad, it even displays the same scenes that appear in the iPhone ad and the voice over gives the message that, "Every day better photos are taken with Nokia Lumias than with any other mobile."

While Nokia clearly intends to show off the imaging prowess of its Lumia devices, as imaging is the major differentiator in its flagship phones, the parody is in bad taste, and clearly reflects Nokia's frustration at not being able to sell as many Lumia devices as it intends to. The iPhone 5 dwarfs the Lumia phones by a huge margin in terms of sales.
See The Comparison Below:

The iPhone has an edge with Apple's app and content ecosystem, and is an all-rounder as its camera is still considered one of the best among all smartphone shooters. It's also the most popular device when it comes to users sharing images on the Internet as more online photos are shot through the iPhone than with any other phone. Nokia's Lumia devices on the other hand are crippled by Windows Phone, Microsoft's mobile operating system which is facing a major app problem, that is evenacknowledged by Nokia execs.

It's interesting to note that despite Microsoft releasing similar parody ads for its Surface tablet, the offering has not been able to do well and have yet to make any profit.

Lacks of Android Devices

It’s not something new whenever we heard about Android’s security mess yes, its a same old news over and over again. But hey, its our responsibility to inform the world what’s this new threat all about. Most Android users tend to ignore security threats, but when will they care?

Android is one of the hottest target for hackers, not only because that it has the biggest user-base but also has the weakest security. Previously reported security hole includes the ability for hackers to penetrate the APKs, turning legit applications into Malware.
Android has a certain feature called ‘weblogin’ it works by generating a token that can be use to authenticate users on Google websites without putting in their passwords. As per Craig Young, a researcher from Tripwire,
“Weblogin provides a better user experience but can potentially compromise the privacy and security of personal Google accounts, as well as Google Apps accounts used by businesses.

For example, it can provide access to the victim’s documents in Google Drive, emails in Gmail, calendar entries in Google Calendar, Google Web search history or potentially sensitive company data stored in Google Apps, he added. This can also be used to access the Google Play account of the user and install apps on the user’s device or to access third-party websites that is supported by Google Federated Login. Once the weblogin is exploited, it would be easy for hackers to the token without user’s confirmation.
Young created a proof-of-concept rogue app that can steal weblogin tokens and send them back to an attacker who can then use them in a Web browser to impersonate a victim on Google Apps, Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Voice and other Google services. Worst is, most Android antivirus software from known vendors was unable to detect the app as a Malware.

Indeed, very alarming because your hard earned money on getting an Android device will just let put your security into a real danger. This never-ending loopholes will eventually hurt Android in the long run.

Windows 8 Tablets Earned 527% Growth As compared To Apple

Apple has started the tablet revolution, no doubt. They have led the tablet market for quite some time and secured their spot not until Android started to invade the tablet wars. Last year Apple has sold 17 million iPads and iPad 2 for the second quarter alone, hitting a 69.6% of the entire tablet market share. Due to high demands of cheaper Android tablets, iOS-powered tablets were badly beaten leaving them almost half of what they are getting before. Things has drastically changed, Android now holds a 62.6% market share and leaving Apple with a 32.5% market share.
Not too far, IDC reported that Windows-based tablets earned 4.5% of all tablets shipped in Q2 2013 in which 0.5% belongs to Windows RT. This is a noticeable growth from 1% last year of the same quarter. Though the sales of the Windows RT is unimpressive, still it outsold Blsckberry’s Playboook with only 0.3% of tablets shipped.

As per IDC,
“A new iPad launch always piques consumer interest in the tablet category and traditionally that has helped both Apple and its competitors,” said Tom Mainelli, Research Director, Tablets at IDC. “With no new iPads, the market slowed for many vendors, and that’s likely to continue into the third quarter. However, by the fourth quarter we expect new products from Apple, Amazon, and others to drive impressive growth in the market.”
Not all vendors experienced a slowdown during the quarter. PC stalwarts Lenovo and Acer both re-entered the top five this quarter. Lenovo continued to make headway into the world of mobility and for the first time had shipments surpass the million unit mark in a quarter, shipping a total of 1.5 million devices. This was up 313.9% from a year ago and enough to capture 3.3% market share. Rounding out the top 5 was Acer, which shipped 1.4 million tablets in 2Q13 for 247.9% year-over-year growth and an increase of 35.4% over the first quarter of 2013.
“The tablet market is still evolving and vendors can rise and fall quickly as a result,” said Ryan Reith, Program Manager for IDC’s Mobility Tracker programs. “Apple aside, the remaining vendors are still very much figuring out which platform strategy will be successful over the long run. To date, Android has been far more successful than the Windows 8 platform. However, Microsoft-fueled products are starting to make notable progress into the market.”
Microsoft’s drive to become the third mobile ecosystem has come true, and now they even secured the 3rd spot on the tablet market. With Microsoft’s increasing demand for Windows 8/RT based tablets, it is inevitable that they will soon dominate the tablet market, with the right product at the right price. We also think that its about time for Nokia to join this race, with their industry leading design concepts, unique technology and innovation, we are confident that they can drive the Windows 8/RT tablet sales faster than expected.
