locate keys or other objects through Lumia.

Nokia is working on a proximity sensor accessory for its Lumia phones - interestingly named, Treasure Tag - that will allow users to track things through their phones, if a new report is to be believed.

According to a report by The Verge that cites sources familiar with company's plans, Nokia will soon launch the accessory that features Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC to track items through an app on the user's phone. The device will be able to stay 'always on' and it will come with a battery that will last six months.

As per the report, users will be able to pair the Treasure Tag accessory with their Nokia Lumia Phones through NFC, and the Finnish handset-maker will bundle a loop strap to attach the device to an object, say a bunch of keys. It further adds that Nokia has developed a Treasure Tag app for Windows Phone, through which users will be able to manage the sensor and locate the device when it gets out of sight. The app will also show the location of the device on a map, integrated with Nokia's LiveSight augmented reality view. Users will also be able to track a phone that's connected to the device through a button located on the device, as it will trigger a siren on the phone if it's in range.

It's worth pointing out that the device will work with Bluetooth 4.0 and Bluetooth Low Energy standards. The forthcoming Amber update for Nokia Windows Phones is expected to bring support for Bluetooth 4.0 and for Bluetooth Low energy devices (Bluetooth Smart) to Nokia Lumia 520, Nokia Lumia 620 andNokia Lumia 720 devices. Following the update, the phones will be able to connect and work with devices such as fitness monitors like Fitbit Flex and smart watches like Pebble. The Nokia Lumia 920already supports Bluetooth 4.0.

Windows Phone Gains Market Share in South Africa

Windows Phone had truly made a mark in the mobile phone software industry. Gone are the days when people are surprised that Microsoft had made an operating system for mobile phones. The platform may had been a little late in joining the OS wars, where IOS and Androids is still leading, but slowly and surely, Windows Phone is now earning the trust of smartphone consumers. With every victory that it achieved and still achieving, whether it is on blog reviews, market performance, sales outcome, or company endorsements, WP shares its victory with its major mobile phone partner – the Nokia Lumia.
As Per Nokia Revolution.

Today, we celebrate another victory of the Windows Phone as Vodacom, the largest mobile telecom company in South Africa, reports that the number of subscribers who wants WP-operated phones, majority of which are Lumia handsets, made a significant increase over a span of two months (from May to July 2013). Although Blackberry still rules in the mobile software battle (followed by Android), it got stuck with the same number of subscribers over the 2-month period. It is also the same case with IOS. The other OS, Windows Phone and Android, had significant growth in the given span of time.

It clearly tells us that while Android remains a tougher opponent, more and more eyes are turning in WP’s direction as an alternative to the much costly phones offered by Blackberry and Apple, as evidenced by a higher growth percentage (47%). Low-cost smartphones with unique features, particularly 520 and 720, are attracting the attention of our African brothers. The numbers may raise the eyes of WP and Lumia’s critics, but to us Nokia and Microsoft supporters, these digits are of great significance. We cannot deny the fact that WP had finally joined the platform wars.

Video Filtering with Windows Phones

Most photography and photo editing apps in the Windows Phone today offers the use of filters to enhance images taken by our camera phones, such as Phototastic, Fantasia Painter, PhotoFunia, and Pixl. Filters are applied either for dramatic effect, improvement of photo aspects, or just pure fun! But have you ever tried adding filters to videos? Sounds exciting? Then, meet Vixl – the newest, cool video filtering app that had arrived in the Windows Marketplace!
From the makers of Pixl, a very good Flickr app, comes the new app that can make magically modify your videos through adding filter. Add a twist to your 20-second videos with its 14 unique filters, which include Lomo, Vignette, 8mm, and Black & White effects. Sharing is also allowed, bringing your masterpiece to Facebook and Flickr.

Other exciting features are bound to be added in the next app update, which will depend on your comments and suggestions. According to the app information, the app’s makers are working on adding sounds to videos, new filters, more websites to share, and a WP7 version! As a Lumia 900 owner, I’m excited for Vixl to finally be available for us.
Your video experience will never be the same again with Vixl

Lenovo Vs nokia

With the recent launch of Nokia Lumia Family’s new member, the Lumia 625, expectations are raised for the possible production of a high-end phablet that will perform well in the smart phone market. Lumia 625’s 4.7” display screen size is the largest so far in the Lumia line, but the use of WVGA instead of HD display, along with the 5MP Carl Zeiss rear camera, does not meet the usual standards of phablet users.

The question is: Will Nokia release another phablet, this time perhaps adapting the features of its high-end smart phones like Lumia 820, 920, 925, 928, or even 1020, such as HD display, higher megapixel cameras, and 1-2GB RAMs?

While we are still clueless about Nokia’s next move, rumors are spreading about Lenovo’s plans to release quad-core, 1080P Windows Phone phablet. As Lumia phones uses dual-core processors, will they continue the rivalry with other WP handsets using these, or a shift to quad-core processors will be on hand soon? As Nokia continue to revolutionize mobile phone experience, we hope to see a lot of improvements in the future.

how to remove DRM protection from images

What Is DRM Protection ?
Digital rights management (DRM) is a class of controversial technologies that are used by hardware manufacturers, publishers, copyright holders, and individuals with the intent to control the use of digital content and devices after sale; there are, however, many competing definitions. With First-generation DRM software, the intent is to control copying while Second-generation DRM schemes seek to control viewing, copying, printing, and altering of works or devices. The term is also sometimes referred to as copy protection, copy prevention, and copy control, although the correctness of doing so is disputed. DRM is a set of access controltechnologies. Companies such as Amazon, AT&T, AOL, Apple Inc., Google, BBC, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and Sony use digital rights management. In 1998, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was passed in the United States to impose criminal penalties on those who make available technologies whose primary purpose and function are to circumvent content protection technologies.
The use of digital rights management is not universally accepted. Some content providers claim that DRM is necessary to fight copyright infringement online and that it can help the copyright holder maintain artistic control or ensure continued revenue streams. Proponents argue that digital locks should be considered necessary to prevent "intellectual property" from being copied freely, just as physical locks are needed to prevent personal property from being stolen. Those opposed to DRM contend there is no evidence that DRM helps prevent copyright infringement, arguing instead that it serves only to inconvenience legitimate customers, and that DRM helps big business stifle innovation and competition.Furthermore, works can become permanently inaccessible if the DRM scheme changes or if the service is discontinued.

What Is Lumia

What is Meant By The Name Lumia
“Lumia is the term coined by 20th Century Artist Thomas Wilfred to refer to art created from light..”
Lumia. Nice name for a smart phone, isn’t it? It sounds unique, futuristic, and stylish. They say a name defines one’s personality.
Does this rule apply for Lumia? In an article by Reuters, Nokia CEO Stephen Elops recalls the history of how they coined the name of their new phone line. Amidst the buzz on smart phones’ increasing popularity, Nokia held a meeting sometime in August 2011, to decide on the name of the company’s latest device.
“Why wait till tomorrow or next week? We could make the decision today. And we did.” - Stephen Elops, Nokia CEO

So if you are expecting a long history on how the name Lumia came about, well, it wasn’t the case for Nokia. Technically, it took only a day to decide on “Lumia”, since they have to act fast and waste no more time.
Lumia is derived from Lumi, meaning “snow” in the Finnish language. But before the release of the first Lumia phones, 800 and 710, reports came out that the name “Lumia” means prostitute in Spanish language. Really now?
Digging more into this, an article in NBC New proved that the word “Lumia” really had an awkward meaning in Spain, but not all who can speak Spanish knows this, since it came from early Gypsy dialects, and is not a commonly used word, only spoken in Spanish dialects with Gypsy influences.
Knocking aside the funny aberration in choosing the name (since words can really have different meanings in different languages), the Nokia Lumia, the smart phone we all love, is now gaining increasing attention in the mobile phone market. The sleek and classy device series, some even receiving awards and citations, had proven that the unique design powered by Microsoft Windows Phone 8 platform, incorporated with the latest Nokia innovations, and added with the amazing Carl Zeiss optical lens technology, can stand up its ground against other smart phone brands today. With all the features offered, who wouldn’t love Lumia?

Applicants will soon be able to apply for passports through their smart phones, a senior official said Wednesday.
"Applicants can fill details on passport applications through mPassport Seva App. We are working on this and are hopeful it will be launched in next few months," Joint Secretary (Passport Seva Project) and Chief Passport Officer Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi told reporters.
The 'mPassport Seva' an android App, developed by the Ministry of External Affairs was earlier launched in March.
The App which can be downloaded at www.passportindia.gov.in, as of now is providing smart phone and tablet users with a variety of services including passport application status, tracking, locating the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and general information on various steps involved in obtaining a passport.

Speaking after inaugurating the passport office CCTV control room at Regional Passport Office at Secunderabad, Pardeshi said the Ministry of External Affairs is likely to issue over 85 lakh passports by the end of this year as compared to 74 lakh issued during last year.

"Between January to June 2013, 37 lakh passports were issued and by this year end. We hope to issue over 75 lakh passports through Passport Offices in India while another 11-12 lakh passports through missions/embassys abroad," he said.
The passport seva project has been declared as winner for e-India public choice award 2013 under government to citizen service category, he said.

Why Nokia chose Windows Phone over Android

Nokia CEO explains why they chose Windows Phone over Android
While Nokia has continued to innovate when it comes to developing new hardware and software, supporting the Windows Phone platform like a lone ranger, the apparent lack of interest from Microsoft, specially with updates being far and few has led to disappointing smartphone sales for the Finnish handset giant.
It goes back to early 2011 when Nokia CEO when Nokia realised that it needed something more than Symbian to march ahead in a world which was switching to Apple's iPhone and phones based on Google's Android operating system. Stephen Elop chose his former employer Microsoft as the company's saviour in a bid to become a competitive third alternative. That, unfortunately, hash't happened even after being in transition for the last two years. A number of technology evangelists and Nokia loyalists have questioned Elop's motive in choosing Windows Phone over Android, adding that the steady pace at which Nokia develops new hardware, it would have made perfect sense for the company to have adopted Android, adding its own apps on top and customising it to its own choice.
At a recent round table with journalists, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop responded to this question, saying that he still feels that the company made the right decision. Elop said at the time of making the switch, he was worried that a particular hardware manufacturer (read Samsung) could have dominated Android due to its resources, vertical integration and because Nokia would have been a late entrant in the Android space. The comment was first reported by The Guardian.
Elop said, "I'm very happy with the decision we made."
"What we were worried about a couple of years ago was the very high risk that one hardware manufacturer could come to dominate Android. We had a suspicion of who it might be, because of the resources available, the vertical integration, and we were respectful of the fact that we were quite late in making that decision. Many others were in that space already."

"Now fast forward to today and examine the Android ecosystem, and there's a lot of good devices from many different companies, but one company has essentially now become the dominant player."

He also cited operators like AT&T as a reason for choosing an alternative platform. He said that operators want to negotiate with different people and keep pressure on everybody to have the best range of options. So, being the third ecosystem helps the company. He even suggested that after Apple's iOS, it was Samsung and Android that comes to people's (and operator's) minds as the second best option, so other Android players have been marginalised.

"Now, it's hard - it's very difficult because we are starting as a challenger, we're having to build that credibility; but with partners like AT&T we're gaining that traction . But it was the right decision. You look at a number of other Android providers right now and they're in a tough spot," he added.

While Elop might defend the company's move by highlighting Samsung's current domination of the platform, Windows Phone is still not doing as well as the company expects. Nokia managed to sell 7.4 million Lumia devices in the last quarter, up 32 percent compared to the previous quarter but its revenues decreased inline with the Average Selling Price of its smartphones. Also, it's only budget devices like the Lumia 520 which are contributing to the surge in sales, which was recently confirmed as the most popular Windows Phone in the world.

Navigation Service for All Windows Phone 8 Devices

Nokia's mapping and navigation service, confusingly branded as "Here" has announced that it will expand its Drive+ service from working on all Windows Phone 8 smartphones, as opposed to just Nokia Lumia handsets.
Drive+ provides access to global voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation with offline maps.
"With the global release of Here Drive+ for all Windows Phone 8 devices we will further extend our Here business and deliver on our promise of making Here experiences available for as many people as possible. The more people are using our location offering the better it will get for everyone," said Thom Brenner, vice president, Windows Phone applications, Here. "At the same time this release also demonstrates our commitment to further strengthen the Windows Phone ecosystem with our maps assets."
The step to broaden the availability of its navigation app correlates with new releases of Here Drive(+) and Here Transit, both available for download from the Windows Phone Store within the coming days. The Here Drive(+) update introduces additional enhancements to the experience, including My Commute, an feature helping to improve the everyday commute. My Commute learns daily driving habits and provides predictable and personalized commute recommendations based on current traffic conditions. Here Drive now also comes with the option to upgrade the navigation license from local to global coverage from within the app.
The latest update to Here Transit further simplifies public transportation, taking advantage of the Windows Phone interface with a streamlined experience and a new panorama view. This new design is making it easier for people to plan routes and access previous destinations and favorites as well as nearby transit stations. Here Transit will also be available for non-Nokia Windows Phone 8 smartphones in selected markets.

Nokia Lumia 521 for MetroPCS

The Nokia Lumia 520/521 is the most popular and best selling Windows Phone to date. Lumia 521, LTE version, has been selling ahead of the Galaxy S3 and Iphone 4 on T-Mobile. No doubt because this smartphone comes with a very affordable price tag yet full packed with features more than its price.

EvLeaks has tweeted that the Lumia 521 is coming to MetroPCS. MetroPCS is a United States mobile network operator owned by T-Mobile US. MetroPCS currently operates the fifth largest mobile telecommunications network in the United States with 9.5 million subscribers as of January 2012, using CDMA technology to offer service in addition to its 4G network using LTE.

The unprecedented success of the Lumia 520 and 521 has attracted a lot of retailers and carriers to promote this device. Lumia 521 is the US version of the 520 packed with a dual ore Snapdragon processor, 4-inch super sensitive touch display, interchangeavle back covers, free lifetime voice-guided turn by turn navigation via HERE Suite, 5 meapixel snapper with 720p HD video capture, and fast LTE connection. With its price and features, the Lumia 521 is second to none.

Nokia Lumia 625 : Another Big Release

It seems that Nokia’s latest surprise will really be “Something Big”, as official specs sheet of the rumored 4.7” Nokia Lumia 625 starts to spread in the worldwide web.
Recently featured here in Nokia Revolution, it seems that some of the rumored specs of the low-budget phablet (codenamed Nokia Max) will take in effect, including:
  • 4.7” display screen, specifically IPS LCD WVGA with 800 x 480 display resolution
  • dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon S4 processor
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 5MP rear camera with 1080P video recording and VGA front camera
Upon reading the specs, it is seen that Lumia 625 is a lot heavier, with 159g, which is close enough weight to the high-end Lumia 820; but will be almost as thin as Lumia 720, with 9.15mm. Since it is a phablet, some may expect the HD display rather than WGVA, and at least, an increase to 1GB RAM. With the selling price of only $320 unlocked (somewhere in between the 720 and 820), the specs are reasonable, and with Nokia Lumia, I’m sure that there is not much difference with its performance compared to other midrange to high-end smartphones.
What’s more exciting about this new handset is the inclusion of Bluetooth 4.0 with Bluetooth Low Energy, something that will only reach the original Lumia 620 after the Nokia Amber Update; and the Row LTE variant, which, according to WMPoweruser, presumably will not be released in China and India.
After the release of the Lumia 1020, will Lumia 625 became the next big thing? We’ll find out.

The Most Innovative And Best CameraPhone in the World

Nokia established a new benchmark in smartphone imaging with the arrival of the Nokia Lumia 1020, boasting a second generation 41 megapixel sensor. Unlike any smartphone in the market today the Nokia Lumia 1020 reinvents zoom, enabling people to discover more detail than the eye can see. With Nokia’s innovative PureView technology, including optical image stabilization, the device is able to produce some of the sharpest images possible by any digital camera.

This is made possible by leading hardware technology combined with a new application called Nokia Pro Camera, which makes it easy for anyone to take professional quality images. Either before a picture is taken or after it has been shot, the zoom capability enables people to discover and then rediscover the personal stories each image can tell. With a beautiful interface that visually demonstrates how settings will affect the final photo or video, Nokia Pro Camera makes it easier than ever to capture, edit and share photos and videos with unrivaled clarity.
Using a new feature called dual capture, the Nokia Lumia 1020 simultaneously takes a high resolution 38 megapixel image for endless editing opportunities, and creates a 5 megapixel picture that is easy to share to social networks with Windows Phone 8.
The Nokia Lumia 1020′s 41 megapixel sensor features leading ZEISS optics with six physical lenses, plus optical image stabilization, delivering crystal clear pictures even in low light conditions. It also captures blur free videos with stereo sound even at the loudest concerts thanks to Nokia Rich Recording, which handles sound pressure levels six times louder than conventional smartphone microphones.
We want to take people on a journey from capturing pictures to recording and sharing their lives,” said Stephen Elop, President and CEO, Nokia. “The Nokia Lumia 1020 will bring new meaning to pictures and continues to strengthen Nokia’s leadership in imaging.”

Nokia also released a new imaging software development kit (SDK) that provides key image editing features of the Nokia Lumia 1020 to developers. The SDK is available today at developer.nokia.com with a number of developers including Vyclone, Yelp and CNN integrating these features into future releases.
Hipstamatic showcased Oggl PRO, an exclusive application for the Nokia Lumia 1020 offering the most advanced smartphone camera controls for their creative community. It was also announced that popular applications Vine, Path and Flipboard will soon be available on Windows Phone.
Adding further professional capabilities and additional battery life, Nokia announced the new Nokia Camera Grip. This is an accessory that complements device features usually reserved for stand-alone cameras, like the Nokia Lumia 1020′s built-in xenon flash and mechanical shutter. The Nokia Camera Grip also has a tripod mount, and is expected to be available this month for an estimated retail price of USD 79.
The personal nature of Windows Phone makes it the perfect platform for the Nokia Lumia 1020, showcasing live images on the Start screen with the Photos tile, quick sharing to social networks, and easy access to files across a number of devices with SkyDrive. With the dedicated camera button, Windows Phone is designed with imaging in mind.
To help people see what’s around them and discover new places to take photos, the latest developments in LiveSight will available in HERE Maps soon. The Nokia Lumia 1020 also comes with ad and subscription free Nokia Music streaming.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 will arrive first on U.S. shores exclusively with AT&T, with sales expected to start on July 26 at a price of USD 299.99 on a two-year contract.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 is then expected to arrive in China and key European markets this quarter. Nokia plans to ship an exclusive variant of the device with Telefonica to select European and Latin American markets. The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be available in yellow, white and black.
